Chido Johnson is a Detroit artist, recent 2009 Kresge Fellow, as well as a 2009 MacDowell Colony Fellow. He was born and raised in Zimbabwe and Zambia, then moved to the U.S.A. in his adulthood. Both his BFA degrees in Sculpture in 1996 and in Painting with a minor in Drawing in 1997 were from the University of Georgia, Athens. Chido obtained his MFA Sculpture degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2000. He has worked, exhibited and taught both nationally as well as internationally. He recently installed his work at the Printed Matter Inc in New York (2013), the Museum of Contemporary Art of Detroit (2012), and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2011). Recent interviews include Learning from the work: A follow up interview with Chido Johnson by Sarah Margolis-Pineo in Bad at Sports and a review in ArtPapers by Christian Holland in the March/April 2011, Boston exhibit titled Domestified Angst: Third Recording. He is currently the section chair of Sculpture at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan.
